How to enable dark theme on Instagram; Official and alternative methods for owners of new and older devices.
The dark theme on Instagram is enabled through the smartphone settings. This is true for both operating systems: iOS and Android. There is no such option in the application itself. The official Instagram help center says that only owners of devices with Android 10 and iOS 13 can enable dark mode. However, for older smartphones there are also ways to enable the dark theme, but they are not so simple.
Thus, in order for dark mode to work on Instagram, you must first enable it on the system. After this, the application will automatically switch to the dark theme. Due to the fact that this scheme is used in other programs, such as Google Chrome for iOS, dark mode may be enabled not only in Instagram.
How to enable dark mode on Android
On Android systems, dark mode is activated in the settings. Scroll down to the Display menu and turn on the Dark Theme switch. Unfortunately, this setting is not available on all devices. Therefore, if you have just such a smartphone, then you can use third-party applications from Google Play.
Please note that the dark theme activated through the application may work partially or incorrectly, and is not applicable to all devices. You may need to try a few different apps. If successful, Instagram will also switch to dark mode automatically.
How to enable dark mode on iOS
Just like on Android, dark mode for Apple devices is enabled along with the system settings. This feature is available starting in iOS 13. To enable dark mode, go to “Settings” and select “Display and Brightness”, then activate the appropriate theme.
You can also enable it from Control Center. Swipe up on the screen and keep your finger on the brightness control. In the window that opens, you will be able to quickly switch between dark and light modes.
On earlier versions – iOS 11 and 12, you can use smart inversion. Although this is not a full-fledged one, it is still a replacement for dark mode . Smart Inversion is a kind of predecessor to a full-fledged dark theme, so it works in a similar way. Go to settings and select “Accessibility”, then “Display and text size”. Turn on Smart Inversion.
